A Serendipitous Encounter

About 5 years ago we, that’s my wife Vicky and I, were driving on a highway in the Alsace region in France. We were on a road trip to Italy, Biella. We like road trips, nothing planned, go with the flow kind of trip.

Discovering My Love for Printing

Five years ago, I had spent a decade immersed in the art of letterpress printing. My passion for this old-school craft was nurtured at the "Industriemuseum" in Ghent, Belgium, where I not only learned but also shared my knowledge with others. Printing had become an integral part of my life.

An Unexpected Turn

As we were driving, listening to Seth Godin podcasts, an unexpected sign appeared on the horizon: "Musee du papier peint," the wallpaper museum. Intrigued, I asked Vicky if we could take a detour to explore this seemingly fascinating place.

Falling in Love with Wallpaper

As soon as we pulled up we could see that this wasn’t going to be an ordinary museum. The museum was a treasure trove of all things wallpaper. And I realized I was falling in love with wallpaper. I found myself captivated by the beauty and craftsmanship of wallpaper, something I had never truly appreciated before. The works on display transcended the wallpaper I had encountered in stores; they were art in their own right.

The Birth of Atelier V.V.

And that’s exactly what Atelier V.V. is about. We would love for all to fall in love (again) with real wallpaper. Not the vinyl one, but the paper one. Not the inkjet one, but the paint one.

Reviving a Lost Craft

Our journey involves creating our own paint, sourcing the finest paper, and meticulously designing and cutting patterns into wood. We start by applying a solid color to the paper and then print the intricate patterns, just like the artisans of old.

Stay Tuned and Follow Us

Today we are in the process of creating a new business. In the coming months we’ll be using all our combined knowledge and with the help of a lot of motivated researchers from different Belgian archives we’ll be recreating a lost craft (at least in Belgium it is).

So for the moment, please stay tuned. We’ll be sharing what’s going on , on instagram or through mail and blog
